Requirements Management Tool
As with all tools they are only as good as the person using them and their knowledge of how to use it. Some of the tools work better than others in different cases as the old saying goes “Use the right tool for the job.” So for the very same reason that you are using a requirement management tool you need to write down the requirements that your requirements tool needs to meet.
All to often while I was consulting I would run across tool gangs, Those who’s blind faith in a tool would not let them see beyond what was happening to their requirements program. They where asking me to fix fundamental problems in capabilities or lack of capabilities of the tool. They were absolutely convinced that their tools could work.
Process and your needs should drive you to selecting a requirements management tool that will work for you not make you work for it.
Having said that you need to test these tools, and again you need to document the testing process so that you test each tool to see how it meets your requirements. For the most part no one wants to say I chose the wrong tool and spent a large part of your budget on it. Not only that you have to deal with the users who are giving you that look every day for making the life hard.
So I leave you with these words “just say no to the tool gangs’, and all tools have there place in the world, but pick the right Requirements Management tool for your needs. Life will be a lot easier if you do
